Jessie Square Plaza was a highly challenging project. It entailed close coordination with different stakeholders of the adjacent properties and with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. Owners of the adjacent properties include St. Patrick Church, Four Seasons Hotel, and Marriot Hotel. The clarification and resolution of the property lines and easements was a significant task as part of the design process. The design team created an urban open space to unite both existing and future surrounding elements.
The project also consisted of a 4-level underground parking facility with a highly visible open public plaza on top, facing Mission Street. The public plaza reinforces the front entry to the new Contemporary Jewish Museum. This modern “piazza” has transformed itself into one of the most positive and energetic places for the general public in the City of San Francisco. Darren was the Project Architect of the project and the project was executed with Handel Architect.
